About the Event

After a long dark night of the soul that has been the past year, the time has finally come for deep, nourishing reconnection with community, soul and land. If you have been waiting for a facilitated excursion of embodiment, wholeness and exploration of the natural world, this is it, my friends!

Join us for one, two, three or all four of our facilitated three hour mini-retreats in four gorgeous natural areas located in the greater Portland area.

Each session will include some combination of these modalities:

Nature Therapy:

The modality of nature therapy derives from in the Japanese practice of Shinrin Yoku or Forest Bathing. During this time you will be guided through new ways to mindfully take in an immersive forest atmosphere. The practice is scientifically proven to reduce stress, boost your immune system & improve mood and focus; beyond this, it allows us to reawaken our relationship with the natural world. Relax, wander, sense your surroundings, enjoy a foraged tea plant ceremony and feel yourself sink into a deep feeling of connectedness.

Herbal Exploration:

Curious about the local flora? In this unique approach to herbal education, you will get a chance to not only learn a bit about the medicinal value of local herbs but also gain a deeper understanding of relationship and patterns in nature. Additionally, if wildcrafting is a little intimidating to you, no worries. Instruction on ethical harvesting is included. In this segment, you will get the chance to not only learn the names and medicinal value of several local plants but you will get the chance to connect with plant beings on a deeper level. Many find this process healing and even transformative.

Tea Ceremony:

Have you ever experienced the magic of drinking tea (camellia sinensis) as a sacred healing or cultivation practice? Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Tea Master Travis Cunningham joins us to facilitate an experience you are not likely to forget. Together we will explore how drinking quality tea in community with a mindfulness approach can offer deep insight, presence and fulfillment. Gain a basic understanding of how traditional medicine treats the whole person. Learn different aspects of working with tea, feeling tea and sensing the qi (energetic) quality of the tea. This is a tool fo real contemplative experience that isn’t always as serious and stiff as other contemplative practices—rather focusing on the authenticity of the moment as it arises. Please note: the tea served is mildly caffeinated.

About the Facilitators

Katrina Nilsson-Gorman, is a certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide and Intuitive Healer. She holds certifications with The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, the Tree of Totems Spiritual Wilderness School as an Ayu-Shamanic Practitioner, and a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Puget Sound in Music and English.

Katrina would like to emphasize, however that her greatest degree has come from life and diving deep into its endless explorations both on internal and external levels.

As a sexual assault and relationship abuse survivor, she specializes in helping women with depression, anxiety and PTSD. After suffering from a cerebellar stroke in 2015, she developed a program for herself to heal physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. This program stands today as her Soulful Mentorship program which has been described by participants as "life-changing and priceless."

More than anything, Katrina has a passion for connection—deep connection to one's true self, connection to an unconditionally loving community and connection to the natural environment. A life-long devotee of the arts, nature, and personal growth/exploration, she comes with a curious melange of talents, gifts and offerings. Having traversed the globe in search of interesting and successful healing modalities, she came back to the US in 2014 as a Reiki Master. From there, she began the path to realizing she was a full-body medium and effective vehicle for energy, and translating archetypes into meaningful messages for clients. She has an unabashed adoration for nature and is living proof that adequate time outside can lead to greater health and fulfillment.

Travis Cunningham graduated from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 2017 with an interest in finding the sources of health and disease. While in the OCOM clinic, Travis found success treating patients with a variety of chronic conditions who had sought many different types of treatment, but had difficulty finding relief. His treatment style focuses heavily on building the patient/practitioner relationship and working with the unique experience of the person.

Travis grew up in Syracuse, New York with a mother who works as a marriage and family therapist, a father who works in insurance, and a brother who works as a musician. Combining a deep interest in the roots of a person's experience with the creativity and structure of a disciplined practice makes Chinese Medicine an ideal fit for Travis.

Travis enjoys using acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, tea therapy, and lifestyle advice to help patients overcome obstacles and embrace their own unique expression of health.
